A House amendment to cut military aid to Israel failed 104 to 313, yet 103 of 212 Democrats voted for it, against 37 on a similar vote two years earlier. The amendment was never going to pass. A recorded vote produces a different thing than an outcome. It produces a permanent, name-attached file of where every member stood, and that file was the whole point.
